Welcome to Year 3!

I hope you have all had a lovely summer break. I look forward to welcoming you to Year 3 on Monday and getting to know you all.

Our Autumn timetable has been uploaded under the ‘Timetable’ tab. Our PE days are Tuesday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor). Inside their PE bags, children should have a white top, black or red shorts, white socks, black outdoor trainers, black pumps, and they may want a plain tracksuit (top and bottoms) for the colder months. Please don’t worry if something is missing to start with.

New book bags will be given to the children on Monday. The below documents will also be handed out to the children over the first few days as we slowly introduce some of the new routines (Accelerated Reader and RWI spellings). I have attached them here also as a point of reference.

Homework is encouraged to support children’s learning in the classroom. Homework books will be handed out on Fridays and collected in on Thursdays. There are several tasks for the children to complete over the half term and they might like to complete one- two pieces each week.

Here is a short insight into what we will be learning during this half term:

During Maths lessons, we will spend the first few weeks learning about place value in numbers up to 1 000. We will then move on to looking at addition and subtraction.

In English, we will be studying the text Ug: Boy Genius of The Stone Age. During the half term, we will be building up to writing a non-chronological report.

UG: Boy Genius of the Stone Age and His Search for Soft Trousers eBook by Raymond Briggs - 9780241320136 | Rakuten Kobo United Kingdom

Science lessons will see us looking at Rocks and Fossils with our big question in History being ‘What was new about the new Stone Age?’

The first day will be a ‘getting to know you day’ and the first few weeks will allow the children to slowly transition and settle into life in Year 3.
